  • Always check out your referral before you give it. Don’t be in too big a hurry. A carefully qualified referral is worth waiting for and makes you look great too.
  • Plan your 1-2-1 meetings. Come with your address book and be prepared to open it and make calls there and then. Make the meeting one of action.
  • One of the best ways to get new visitors for your chapter is to invite cold callers who want to meet with you to come to your BNI meeting. There they can meet not just you but a whole room of potential customers. It’s very compelling.
  • If you’re not sure if your referral is a referral  - ask your intended recipient. Don’t guess. You might be about to dismiss the greatest referral you’ve ever given.
  • Wear the BNI badge. It’s such a simple thing and it builds awareness. If we all did it I suspect all our chapters would be overflowing.
  • Follow up on your referrals. Did it work out? If so, great. Why? If not Ok and again why? Learn all the time from what works and what doesn’t and your members will respect you for your efforts.
  • Do the training and even if you’ve done it all ages ago – do it again. Why? Because we never remember everything, we need to learn to succeed and most important of all: it’s a new networking opportunity outside of your usual circle.
